DRY NEEDLING?

WHAT IS DRY NEEDLING?

Dry needling is a safe and effective method of treatment performed by a licensed physical therapist that works to reduce pain and muscle tension while improving mobility. Our HealthQuest physical therapists use a “dry” needle, a needle without any medication, and insert it into the muscle in “trigger points” or areas that are hard/knotted to stimulate the healing process of soft tissues (muscles, tendons, and ligaments, etc.).  The needles remain in a patient’s skin for a short period, depending on the practitioner and case. This can be an effective method for targeting trigger points, a tight skeletal muscle within a larger muscle group that can be difficult to reach manually. Releasing these trigger points can relieve pain and increase mobility resulting in a quicker recovery.
